HUGE PAINTING IN SILENT AUCTION

Thank you to everyone who made our Gallery IS LIVE event a great success. We had a big turn-out on friday to listen to the great Electrocoustic Jazz of DIG.IN.IT., and watch Susan Woolgar create a beautiful painting on site.

The painting done by Susan is now the object of a silent auction. If you missed your chance to place a bid just call or email the gallery and we will add your name to the list. Bidding is already up to $700.00.

There is a reserve on this piece, so it will not be sold untill that reserve is met. The value of the painting is regularily $2'500.00. This is a chance to bring home an amazing artwork of Susan's with a great story.

Be sure to get involved soon. We will be making regular updates on this blog as to the status of the bidding.

Enchanted By The Seasons ~ September Exhibit

Gallery IS presents its newest solo show, "Enchanted by the Seasons".

This exhibit is the first ever solo by local jewellery designer Elizabeth Ferchuk.

Her work will be featured in the Gallery from September 1st to September 27th, 08.

We hope you will make a point to come and see this unique display of custom made, sculptural beadwork.

This is what Elizabeth has to say about her work ...

"Enchanted by the Seasons
The seasons and all their glorious colours, both in nature and the ones traditionally associated with them, are what provided the inspiration for Elizabeth Ferchuk’s first solo show, Enchanted by the Seasons. From a simple flower in her backyard garden, a shimmering fall landscape, snow-capped trees or the summer skies at midnight, nothing is off limits to providing ideas. She finds that all the wonderful colour combinations provide such inspiration, that it’s quite an enchanting feeling when a design is thought up and begins to come to life. The pieces in the show are a mix, some are simple and eloquently stated and others are quite sculptural and expressive. "

June Feature Artist

Gallery IS, is pleased to announce its next upcoming solo exhibit by Edmonton sculptor Shumba Ash. "Freedom" is a collection of stone and metal sculptures in Shumba's unique style. This style is influenced by his home country of Zimbabwe, and his new home of Canada, to create his Afro-Canadian experience. We are also very excited that Shumba's life sized wire sculpture of a motocycle will be included in this show.

"Freedom, do we know it, do we appriciate it and after fighting for it do we loose it again; to fight for it again."

Freedom of expression is what many have died for and are fighting for, how blessed am I to have this artistic freedom. Am I, are we taking full advantage of it?

Recovering Self ~ May exhibit at Gallery IS.

Gallery IS presents our next solo show by artist Tracie Stewart-O'Brien. Tracie is a local artist and this is what she has to say about her collection of works.

" “Recovering Self” depicts the artist’s personal struggle to discover, uncover, and recover her. After wandering both emotionally and physically as a result of painful events which caused her sense of self to become submerged, she entered into a time of rediscovery For her the non-linear process of discovery involves the application and removal layers of meaning as well as paint. As a result, a transformation occurs, which cannot necessarily be controlled either in art or in life, and understanding begins to emerge.
For Tracie the creation of art is one way to create cosmos out of chaos. She believes the process of creation is one way the “inner self” can be explored and what rises to the surface can help us to translate, appreciate and deal with difficult or cloudy issues in our lives. In creating these works the artist uncovers, recovers and discovers herself and shares her visual insights with you in the hope that you can relate and as a result we can engage in meaningful dialogue together
."

We hope you will join us on Friday May 2nd, for the artists reception. 6-8pm.
