September Exhibit Fifty-50

Gallery IS, is pleased to present the work of Artist Arlene Westen Evans.

Arlene Westen Evans combines personal narrative with a unique visual lexicon to depict her life journey in this series of fifty artworks.

“There is always a gentle ‘push’ and ‘pull’ to the process - discovering places where strange ambiguities emerge, where a figure might awkwardly melt into a background or a combination of elements becomes something symbolic or unexpected, strange and new.”

An indefatigable artist and instructor with over 25 years experience in the arts, Westen Evans graduated BFA Honours (Distinction) from the Alberta College of Art and Design in Calgary. She has conducted numerous workshops throughout western Canada including Summer Series at Red Deer College in Alberta.

Please join us on First Friday, September 4th from 6-9pm, to celebrate the opening of this unique collection of work.

The artist will be in attendance and also the Gallery IS open studio artists will be at work in their spaces.

August Feature Artist Alison Philpotts

Gallery IS, is pleased to present the work of Alison Philpotts.

"My main concern with my palette of acrylic colour is to paint, primarily,
southern Alberta landscapes. I choose scenes that resonate with me on a
personal level both emotionally and spiritually. The emotive nature of my
focus is an unending passion for me. With each large canvas, time stands
still for me, as I delight in creating intense colour combined with the
subtleties of light and shadow in each composition. In turn, the paintings
themselves, evolve beyond the mere reality of what the naked eye
perceives. This is my joy.
When I reflect on my work, there are several concepts involved. On one
level, it is simply to invite the viewer to participate in a brief meditation on
the intricate beauty of our natural environment, to show that our shared
landscape is neither dormant nor neutral. On the other hand, another
conceptual message is that landscape as such with its sheer vitality and the
profundity of its silent energy can offer an attentive person solace, peace
and a sense of belonging, an anchor, if you will, in this world in
which we live."
Alison's work is on display from August 3rd to August 15th. All works are for sale.
Opening Reception and Gallery IS Open Studios are First Friday August 7th, 6-9pm.
Artist's will be attending.
